Women’s Roles In the French Revolution
Women had no specific roles that’s what a lot of
people said when the revolution was going on. They were only there to cook and
clean the house while the man worked. But they more to do in this thing then
people thought they had important roles that changed the roles of women, and
the future. They will prove to all they could do things as good as man, even
better a lot say, they had roles, they had courage, they weren’t afraid to do
what they stand for, and for what they believed in this is their story of how
they rebelled. And how they got their respect to be known all over.
Women had no rights they were only allowed to stay home and cook, they
had no say in anything, “never the less, from the urban women of Paris played a
large role in the folding of the revolution.” Considering, “on the 5th
and 6th day, of 1789 a crowd of 6 thousand woman, accomplished by
the National Guard, marched to Versailles to demand bread from King Louis, and
Queen Marie Antonie in person.” Even though they had no rights they stood up
and did what other people wouldn’t have done, or thought of doing. They stood
their ground and fought. Women had roles, many believed they couldn’t do much
in the revolution except cook, and clean, but they proved them wrong.
Women proved that what they did, their roles had meaning, that they
could do big things that no men would dare to do. After they marched towards
the king and Queen, “they stormed towards the monarch’s head quarters and after
the death of 2 Louis’ Swiss Guards, a small delegation of market women wined an
audience with the king and the National Assembly.” Women proved they had a
meaning in this revolution, they did things men wouldn’t do with their faces
covered with mask on, they did it full on, without a second thought or
hesitation.
Even one woman thought they had a role in this
revolution, and she changed everything, her name was Charlotte Corday. “Corday devoted to their cause, went to
Paris. She was convinced that their primary enemy was Jean Paul Marat, and devised
a plan to gain access to him under the pretext of wanting to tell him of the
events of Caen. On the July 13,1793 she stabbed him through the hearth while he
was in his bath.” She was arrested immediately, and was sent to execution many
thought she did a good thing she stopped disasters that might have come. A
portrait was painted for her, for her work she has done and gave him a piece of
her hair before killed. Many said her face was calm like a statue, and girls
holded hands, and danced behind her she became an inspiration for all French
people. Even one single woman can make a difference and many knew it she was
not only an inspiration for French people she was an inspiration for all women
everywhere, and even she knew it before she was killed.
Women had a role in this revolution, many believed
they couldn’t do nothing only stay at home, and clean. But when it came for
something they worked hard for, they fought, hard. When the bread came short
they brought hell, and stood up against the king and the queen, not even the
men would dare do that. As well went to get the king and kill two people and
put their heads on top of some sticks, and drove them away by force. And let’s
not forget the brave hearted woman Charlotte Corday who single handedly stabbed
and killed the main enemy of her place, Jean Paul Marat. In the past women
proved they could do things as good as men, even better, even today women have
jobs, fight in wars, educate children, and still have enough strength to go
home and take care of a family. They had roles back then, and they have one’s
now. They proved that they are worthy, to become anything, and they still are.
