Essay

Essay
I have researched the sites of the causes and the effects of the Cuban Missile Crisis for the days of Friday and Monday and found three good sites.  http://www.markedbyteachers.com/gcse/history/the-cuban-missile-crisis-causes-and-consequences.html, in this site it says that this event was the closest there was to becoming a nuclear war, but was stopped but great things came to the effects to Cuba, in May 17, 1960 US made a broadcasting station so they would overthrow Castro. And then the US controlled all the oil in Cuba, and then stopped the process of making oil in Cuba which paralyzed their economy as well as their energy source. And in 1980 the US stopped the trade of sugar to them which cut their supplies down 80%, which weakened their economy even more.

In the site http://www.johndclare .net/cold_war16.htm, Khrushchev lost prestige and china broke from Russia. But Kennedy lost prestige, he was considered as the people who faced down on Russians. Both sides were also scared and are more careful now, and had set up a “hot line” to talk directly to one another during a crisis. And in 1963 there was an agreement on a Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. And Cuba was the beginning of the end of the Cold War. Cuba remained a communist dictatorship, and America left it as it is.

And in the site http://www.buzzle.com/articles/causes-and-effects-of-the-cold-war.html, both the United States of America and the Soviet Union built up huge arsenals of atomic weapons and ballistic missiles. A group named NATO and the Warsaw Pact were made it lead to violent fights like the Vietnam and Korean War. And the Soviet Union fell for bad economy. Later the Berlin Wall fell and the both German sides were united again. And America was considered the sole power of the world. Later communism fell around the world.

The Origin of this site was http://www.glynn.k12.ga.us/~pwilliam/BHS/academics/junior/luko/2005/ashleyt13513f.htm, created by an 11th grader for an English project in November 2005. Who was helped by his advanced U.S History Teacher.

The purpose of this paper is to get a good grade from his English Teacher, and to show and tell him how was the Cuban Missile crisis, and what was happening during the crisis. And who and what were doing during this time.

The value of this paper is to tell people what was happening during the missile crisis, and how it started as well and the consequences because of all this. And how well this student knew of the crisis and how much information he could put down.

The limitations of this paper is that the paper is too short, so he probably just put a little bit of information and probably not even put the important information either. Plus the teacher he got the information from was a senior in high school at the time.

The 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis

For my Junior Project I interviewed my Advanced U.S History teacher Mr. Ervin. He was willing to tell me about The Cuban Missile Crisis. Mr. Ervin was a senior in high school during this time.
During the Cuban Missile Crisis John F. Kennedy was president.  In September John F. Kennedy and the Congress issued warnings to USSR that the U.S will deal harshly with any threats to National Security. On October 14, 1962 U2 recon flew over Cuba spots sites installing nuclear missiles. October16-22, 1962 President Kennedy notified, secret deliberations on what should have been done, and Kennedy told the nation his plan for blockade and quarantine. October 23, 1962 naval quarantine begins and successfully changes the course of many Soviet ships. October 25, 1962 Kennedy lets it pass. Adlai Stevenson dares the Soviet Ambassador to admit to the existence of missile when the Soviet Ambassador refuses. Stevenson wheeled out pictures of the missile sites. October 26, 1962 Soviet Union raises possibility for a deal that,” if they with draw missiles will America promise not to invade Cuba?”

Oct.27, 1962 Soviets demand that America also withdraw missiles from Turkey. Kennedy also tells Khrushchev that he will accept the proposal of October 26, Kennedy tells his brother to tell Soviet Ambassador that though the Turkey missiles would not be part of the bargain; they would be removed in time. Oct. 28, 1962 USSR agrees to withdraw missiles. Soviet Union motivation was to close the missile gap and they were far behind in numbers of missiles with the U.S. Verbal threats no longer affected with evidence of U.S superiority and Protect Cuba.
The U.S has missiles pointing at Soviet Union , but they were unable to use the missiles. American motivation happened in September when John F. Kennedy had stated that the Congress passed a resolution saying that if the Soviet Union placed offensive weapons in Cuba U.S would not tolerate it. Warns U.S gave to Soviet Union 1) Threat to attack Cuba and blow up missile.2) Blockades over Cuba 500 miles and check every ship that came in. Blockade was not required for instant killing. 3) Threaten to blow up missile area. 4) Go to war against Soviet Union.
Mr. Ervin said he was a senior in high school during this time. He said, “There were many trains in Brunswick that were heading to northern part of Florida with guns. There were soldiers on some trains too.” He remembered that they were heading to Miami Beach. Which at the time Mr. Ervin said,” they had bobbed wire around Miami Beach.” Mr. Ervin said he remembered his father saying,” My God we are close to having a nuclear war.” He also said that back in this time parents and their kids didn’t talk about war and politics. When Mr. Ervin was thinking back on this, he was making it seem like it was along time ago, but he remember it like it was yesterday. As I was talking about the Cuban Missile Crisis with him, his wife was talking about it too. She remembered it like it was yesterday also. The nation was scared that the Soviet Union was going to bomb the U.S.

The interview with Mr. Ervin was wonderful, because the way he tells me about history makes me want to learn more about it. I learned more about the Cuban Missile Crisis than I ever knew. I have learned more than I ever knew about this because I did not know anything about the Cuban Missile Crisis before this project. I learn a little more than I already knew about Mr. Ervin. I would say a person never knows a person until they really talk and get to know them, but Mr. Ervin looks like he has been through many  interesting invents in his life time. I rate this interview a positive.

Extinct Animal

The Asiatic lions comen a on wild pigs , cattle, antelope, and deer in the wild. but in the zoo they eat rabbits , chickens, and heart, about 3-4 kilos of meat six out of seven days, they only eat meat. Their habitats are tropical dry forest , tropical grassland, desserts and semi-desserts.

Their scientific names are Panthera leo persicus, live in India , their continent Asia.

Description: Asiatic lions have a shaggier coat than their African counterparts, and both sexes have a distinctive fold of skin that runs along the belly. They have a longer tassel of hair on the end of the tail and longer tufts of hair on the elbows. Males are 1.7-2.5 m long and weigh 150-250 kgs while females are 1.4-1.75m in length and weigh in at 120-182 kgs. Like all cats they are equipped with powerful, retractable claws and long sharp canine teeth that are used to pull their prey to the ground.

Lifestyle: Like African lions, hunting is a cooperative affair but adult males rarely participate. If vegetation is sparse, hunting usually takes place at night, but where it is thick, it may also take place during the day. The lions use stealth to approach their prey and then charge and either grab or knock it down before it outruns them. Only one in about four charges end successfully. Lions are inactive for most of the day, spending up to 20 hours per day resting or sleeping.
Conservation news: The Asiatic lion was once found in Eastern Europe, Turkey, the Middle East and most of India. It became extinct in Europe around 100 A.D. and in Palestine around the time of The Crusades. It remained widespread until the time of the advent of firearms in the mid 1800s, which led to widespread extinction through hunting as a sport. In 1900, the Nawab of Junagadh, the local ruler, declared the few remaining lions of the Gir Forest in India protected animals. The Nawab told everyone that there were only 20 remaining to prevent people from going to the Gir to hunt them. The population was estimated to be around 100 between 1968 and 1979 but is now thought to be more than double this. However, the forest is now approaching the limit of the number of lions that it can support and other safe havens for Asiatic lions in India are sorely needed. One suggested location is the Barda Hills near Porbandar. The Gir Forest is a dry deciduous forest in Gujarat, western India. Its wildlife sanctuary is 545 square miles with only the central 100 square miles completely protected as a National Park. About 7,500 Maldhari people and their 14,000 cattle live in the Forest Sanctuary, with a further 160,000 people and 100,000 cattle living within six miles of the Sanctuary. As there are so few Asiatic lions, it is necessary to manage the captive and wild populations if the species is to recover. It is essential to ensure that all the lions are pure bred and that pairs are not closely related to one another. Bristol Zoo Gardens is actively involved in this programme.

Part 5 Reflect learning

1)   I learned that donating Isn't gonna get you much money by just asking for the money. Unless you are giving something in return they won't give much. From asking for donations all I got was a penny, but from selling candy and all that stuff I got 26 dollars fast so you gotta offer something in return for their money or you just get squat. In order to complete something you gotta change some things and adapt to keep earning what you gotta earn. Doing the same thing every time will lose it's touch and wear out and will no longer work, so I'll keep adapting to continue making money.
112 Words

2)    Well the new understanding is to sell to people next to you were you work and live because those people know you they will feel more confident to buy from you than a total stranger plus once they know you are selling they will most likely bring money tomorrow to buy from you what ever you are selling , plus temptation to buy stuff always get's to everyone. To sell things sell to your friends and neighbors because they will have a hard time saying no, plus they know you so they know you will ask again if they want to buy your merchandise, and stuff. So sell to people you know and you will have a 75% chance of selling your products.
125words

3) I give myself a 89% on all my work it's not so good and it's not bad it's a medium on my grade it's not so achieving but it says I didn't just do nothing like I didn't give a crap that I still worked hard on it. That I'm selling chocolate and candy, to give the money to Ms. Castellano and I’m not keeping any of the profit nor spending any of it on myself, or on anybody at all. Next time I’m gonna collect money for something and have a lot of time to collect it I will start collecting emmideatly not after a huge gap of time and pass my goal way before it reaches half the time to finish and turn in the money.
129 words

4) The skill of what people like to buy on most so i went with what most people like to spend on the most or at least one of the top ten selling candy, so pretty much I learned to tempt people to buy my candy, their sweet tooth gave in and I started making money fast till I finally got to my goal and even past it a little. The skill to never give up no matter how long it took, all the first failures, the money me and my mom wasted I didn't give up till I reached that goal and felt that I finally did a dent on this thing.
114 words

5) Times well I haven't given it much thought about which format I've been using lately but considering it's been used so many times and It's a classic writing I may just keep it the way it is. Considering I'm selling chocolate and stuff the old fashion way walking and asking instead of through a phone I'll keep as it is, it kind a describes of what I am old school. The kind that still is around the one that helps people out in times of need.

Part 4 : achieve the goal

1)   Well I went from donating to an organization,  to donating to a single teacher. I also changed from making a donation box to start selling to people I sell candy and they give me money easy business. Well I changed from the organization to the teacher from the asking of my homeroom teacher Mr. Cabrera. And when he asked me to change it, ti was a good idea I will be donating to a person I know not a stranger, plus I only have to do it on one person. Right now the donation is going great now if only I knew how to give the money to her in person considering I got no idea where, she is.
120 words

2)  Yes in order to make my project much easier and more affective I switched from organization to one person. An, and treats from donation box to collecting money from selling candy. Well it's very affective considering I had nothing for the organization my project was going nowhere, once I change it to Ms. Castellano my project started going somewhere, it went slowly like a toddler learning to walk, then it slowly speed up. First I started out with just a penny from the donation box a made, went nowhere with that then after the weekend I bought some chocolate, and some "rice Krispy treats" within the first day I made 26 dollars easy once I went thought the school days I made 67 dollars. That's when I barely realized if I started this a month earlier I could have had twice to three times the money I could have when I sold all of this so I'm disappointed in myself but still glad I’m doing this.
 167 words

3)    On what I have completed and what I will complete I give myself an 82% considering I know I could have done this earlier yet I didn't could have made twice as much if I started out earlier yet I deserve a little credit for doing as much as I could a normal guy would have just gotten money out of his own pocket and say he earned it by doing work and fake donate. I'm collecting and gathering money and my peers are living proof that I am. What my supervisor thinks is maybe around what I just put maybe more for taking his advice and do this project for Ms. Castellano so maybe give me an 80 to 90 hopefully a passing grade.

Part 3 : Application Of Information

1)  Me and my family have been collecting money, since I started every time I waste money on something I put the change in a jar , and it started filing up little by little every time I waste a little I put it in the jar. Well my decision is to sell in my boundaries to make a box and ask donations around the school, and say to donate to Ms.Castellano. Then I changed it to collecting money by selling candy in the school. Well I did have some problems how much to waste for the candy and how much profit I'm going to get out of it. Well I got no information out yet except that the hospital bill is going to be a lot so I'm collecting money to help her out and trying to reach my goal or further.

139words

2) Yes I got the technique of how to waste money to gain money. Slowly I calculated the price of each item I would have buyed in total it cost me more than  $40 dollars good thing my mom helped me pay for them so I owe her. Then after I calculated the price I counted the items in all the boxes. And found out I would make  $92 dollars just a little bit off my goal so after I waste all of it I will buy some new boxes and try to pass my goal.

Part 2: Selection of Sources

1)     Alliances, and therapy about lung cancer. Well I was suppose to do something about a type of cancer, so I went with those that made my work much easier, but the ones that I choose were different  from each other. So I picked the one that went more for what I was going with ,"Lung Cancer Alliance", an alliance that donates money to people with different diseases, so I was going to donate money to people that I didn't even know, and I wasn't going to know if the money I donated was going to help them  at all. Yes I had to find a lot of sources about cancer, but there weren't a lot for donating to cancer people, and once I found a good source, I had no idea how to donate to them.     138 words

2)       On this project I didn't, access any sources that were printed out like newspapers, or books. I didn't use any printed sources. I did not access any printed information. I don't know.  33 words

3)      I mainly used the computers from Miss Hinojosa room to access practically all my information from the start. It was the only thing I had, to get information from, for my project and for my sources. To start it up is press the button to turn on the computer type in the password, went to google, then I started to research, "Fundraising for cancer", and started to look. for sites that I needed, and that they were good. It was the simplest thing in the world to do at long as you had a brain, know the password , and know the basic things to move and type on the computer. There were only a few sources that were available, and that I could use that were based on my project on the time, to me those sources were valuable to me like money you don't wanna waste.    150 words

4)      Well I have a few human resources my homeroom teacher Mr. Cabrera, and the one I'm fundraising Ms. Castellano. Well they're the only one's that can help, and have helped me in this project, considering Mr. Cabrera asked me to change it and has helped me a lot, and Ms. Castellano is the main thing about my project, so I'm helping her, and she helps me back. For Mr. Cabrera he's easy to talk to considering I see him everyday, but Ms. Castelano on the other hand haven't met her since she wen't to the hospital. TO me they are both valuable to me as friends, but not only to me, but for everyone in this school, but to their friends and their families.    125 words

5)         I made my choices by seeing the information, reading it carefully, I see it carefully make a lot of decisions before I make it and put it into my project, if it went good with what I was going with, I kept it for the future, and if it didn't I discarded it, or just not chose it at all. I was sometimes desperate for information that if it went for 50% for the project I got it and kept it like the rest. How good the sources are, it's considered how good it goes with the project. 100 words

          546 words

Part 1: The Goal

1)     My interaction right now is to collect , and donate money to my teacher Ms. Castellano, for her cancer, and to help her out a little. Well it started out, to go and work for an organization that gives money from donations, collections etc. ,to random people who have a disease and that's it. Now I'm collecting money for Ms. Castellano, because getting the money is the main objective, giving her the money is also the main objective. Because that's the important thing to do collect, give, probably repeat, and that's it, till I reach the goal I'm aiming for.       100 words

2)    My personal interest is to collect some money to give to Ms. Castellano, and reach my goal to collect $100 dollars to give to her. I was suppose to work for an organization I found in the Internet, but my teacher convinced me to switch it to help her out, I went with it considering it was quicker and faster than researching endless websites for one thing. I had no experience nor understanding on this topic, I picked for the asking of a teacher, to help an old teacher that helped me pass, and to finally have a project. All I have to do is collect money, reach my goal, and give it to Ms. Castellano to help her with her cancer.   123 words

3)    How can I help Ms. Castellano, with her bill, from the hospital, and to help her with the treatment of her cancer so she can know we are helping her ( the people who donate). I need to do the answer, to answer it, so I gotta first realize how do i help help her out, and then do it. Probably one's that, break down a question and analyze it perfectly, or one that knows someone with what I'm working with, and understand it like they wrote it themselves.   90 words

4)   My goal was to collect money for an organization, and give them $100 dollars, but I changed it from a request from my homeroom teacher so i'm now collecting for one person in particular my old Math teacher Ms. Castellano. I will have to donate $100 , and give it to her to help her with the bills, and wit her cancer. My specification is not to fail anyone it's either make 3/4 of my goal, or die trying. No that's too dramatic, I'll try my best, and I'll see what I could do, to try/do my goal, and be happy that I tried to do it and got close to.    111 words

Womens War 2

Women’s Roles In the French Revolution

Women had no specific roles that’s what a lot of people said when the revolution was going on. They were only there to cook and clean the house while the man worked. But they more to do in this thing then people thought they had important roles that changed the roles of women, and the future. They will prove to all they could do things as good as man, even better a lot say, they had roles, they had courage, they weren’t afraid to do what they stand for, and for what they believed in this is their story of how they rebelled. And how they got their respect to be known all over.

Women had no rights they were only allowed to stay home and cook, they had no say in anything, “never the less, from the urban women of Paris played a large role in the folding of the revolution.” Considering, “on the 5th and 6th day, of 1789 a crowd of 6 thousand woman, accomplished by the National Guard, marched to Versailles to demand bread from King Louis, and Queen Marie Antonie in person.” Even though they had no rights they stood up and did what other people wouldn’t have done, or thought of doing. They stood their ground and fought. Women had roles, many believed they couldn’t do much in the revolution except cook, and clean, but they proved them wrong.

Women proved that what they did, their roles had meaning, that they could do big things that no men would dare to do. After they marched towards the king and Queen, “they stormed towards the monarch’s head quarters and after the death of 2 Louis’ Swiss Guards, a small delegation of market women wined an audience with the king and the National Assembly.” Women proved they had a meaning in this revolution, they did things men wouldn’t do with their faces covered with mask on, they did it full on, without a second thought or hesitation.

Even one woman thought they had a role in this revolution, and she changed everything, her name was Charlotte Corday.  “Corday devoted to their cause, went to Paris. She was convinced that their primary enemy was Jean Paul Marat, and devised a plan to gain access to him under the pretext of wanting to tell him of the events of Caen. On the July 13,1793 she stabbed him through the hearth while he was in his bath.” She was arrested immediately, and was sent to execution many thought she did a good thing she stopped disasters that might have come. A portrait was painted for her, for her work she has done and gave him a piece of her hair before killed. Many said her face was calm like a statue, and girls holded hands, and danced behind her she became an inspiration for all French people. Even one single woman can make a difference and many knew it she was not only an inspiration for French people she was an inspiration for all women everywhere, and even she knew it before she was killed.

Women had a role in this revolution, many believed they couldn’t do nothing only stay at home, and clean. But when it came for something they worked hard for, they fought, hard. When the bread came short they brought hell, and stood up against the king and the queen, not even the men would dare do that. As well went to get the king and kill two people and put their heads on top of some sticks, and drove them away by force. And let’s not forget the brave hearted woman Charlotte Corday who single handedly stabbed and killed the main enemy of her place, Jean Paul Marat. In the past women proved they could do things as good as men, even better, even today women have jobs, fight in wars, educate children, and still have enough strength to go home and take care of a family. They had roles back then, and they have one’s now. They proved that they are worthy, to become anything, and they still are.
